Sex has been part of the emerging societal norms. In fact, it is one of the oldest activities that have been utilized by man’s intrinsic behavior. As implied in the popularly known saying that man is from Mars and woman is from Venus, the statement mainly depicts an argument of beliefs between these genders. The public has a popular notion that male and female vary in their concept and perspective in terms of sex definition, reason and functions. As the belief dictates, females are said to be more inclined to emotional satisfaction when performing sexual activity, on the other hand, males are inclined on the opposite side, which is physical satisfaction. However, each individual has their own reasons why they enter into sexual intercourse (Borenstein, 2007).

Rationale for this activity involves various psychological perspectives that vary among individuals.People engage in this activity for psychological reasons such as pure pleasure, to express intimate attachment, to continue the family lineage, because the partner wants to, for domination, and to relieve one’s self from sexual tension (Meston & Buss, 2007, p. 1). The paper covers the essence of the topic that explores the reasons why people have sex by utilizing two articles that centers on research and media studies. These queries serve as the primary objectives of the entire discussion. What are the most common reasons viewed by the public in terms having sex? Are the results of the surveys enough to justify such claims? b. What are the coverage tacked on both angles of research and media articles? Provide a critical comparison and differentiation between the used sources. In its very essence, the primary function of sex is known to all, which is procreation.

It is one of the most important activities utilized by human beings in order to survive and keep their species on tract. However, the functional perspective of this activity is already considered as one of the basics in human knowledge. Another thing that we ought to focus into is the “why” of the subject. From the ancient times to the current generation, the reason for this activity is disregarded or has been centralized with the functional purpose, and most of the time the only focus for the activity are the “how” or the methods of performing the activity. However, little do we know that the reasons or the “why” of this activity is far more important than the methods itself or sometimes even the functional purpose.Focusing now on the research employed in the study, the hypothesis implicates that the psychological reasons for having sex varies among individuals, and completely opposite from the common notion that men are motivated mainly on physical satisfaction and females view sex as emotional fulfillment (Meston & Buss, 2007, p. 2). The methods utilized in the study are primarily through surveys that are divided to initial phase and psychometric analyses (Meston & Buss, 2007, p.

3).In the initial phase, the methodology utilizes 203 male and 241 female participants, which ages from 17 to 52 years old and studies in the field of psychology. The participants who agreed in the study have been asked to list down possible reasons of having sex. The over-all method has obtained 715 reasons, and reduced this number, by removing the inappropriate and similar reasons, to 237 reasons. The questionnaire, which comprises these composed reasons, is termed as YSEX.

The psychometric analyses comes in the methodology when 1,549 undergraduate students with ages ranging from 16 to 42 years old and mean age of 19 years. In fact, 96% of the subjects belong in the ages 18-22 years old. Among the ethnicities involved, Caucasians is the highest with the number of 62%. In terms of sexual experiences, 73% of 910 women and 68% of 343 men have already engaged in sexual intercourse; hence, increasing the possibilities of accurate results due to experienced individuals involved. For more detailed account, 88% of these subjects have engaged in oral sex while 95% have reported to be engaged with other forms of sex. This implicates the most probable sexual behaviorism involve in the participants, which depicts sexual environment that is out of the classical method of intercourse. The participants are asked to answer the YSEX? Questionnaire in order to obtain the psychological precepts of the subjects in their reasons for having sex. The over-all course of program has resulted to the reason “it feels good” with the ratings of 3.

59 for women and 3. 96 for men. The local notion of having sex by expressing love and affection belongs to top 10 for both men and women (Borenstein, 2007). The results implicate that the main reason of the current generation for having sex is to obtain physical pleasure. Analyzing the subjects involved and the results obtained, there is a possible evidence for the occurrence of such result since the main methods of sexual intercourse utilized by the subjects are deviating from the classical means of intercourse. In terms of comparison between the media article and the research paper, both emphasizes the psychological identity of the reasons why individuals engage into sex.

Apparently, the local norms of Venus and Mars stated from the media article is not the results that appeared in the over-all tests, but rather both sexes engage into sexual activities for the reason of obtaining physical pleasure in contrast with the belief of society that males are more fond of physical satisfaction and women are for emotional fulfillment. As evidenced by the study, both genders are precise in their reasons of having sex, which is for physical fulfillment. However, there have been problems that evidently aroused all throughout the research procedures, such as the differentiation of perspectives between older individuals and those younger ones. According to Meston, different data appears when older individuals are analyzed; since, the hormones are one of the factors that affect the reasoning of these young individuals (Borenstein, 2007). One factor that might be causing such differentiation is the cultural and generation influence.Since the elderly are more oriented in the classical approach and perspectives of having sex, elders will definitely have their different perspectives than with the current generation, which views the sex as means of physical satisfaction or having fun.

Since the mean age of the interviewees is 19 years old, most likely, results of the study side with the perspectives of these young individuals. In conclusion, the summary of the media article presented depicts the contradiction that occur between the classical conception or reasoning why people have sex and the present’s own perspective of why people have sex.It clearly illustrates that men and women do not possess an entire differentiation of their reasons since, mainly the reason why these individuals have sex is because of the physical satisfaction as manifested by “Its feels good. ”ReferenceBorenstein, A.
