Catholicism, Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Hinduism. What do they have in common? The answer is simple – they’re all types of religions. Religion is arguably one of the most powerful and influential forces in our world today.

It provides us with the opportunity to explore some of the most significant factors that have largely impacted the evolution of life to this day. The same applies to the universal study we all know as science. The question is, how and why do they differ? Good morning teachers and fellow classmates. My name is Andria Anthonypillai, and today I will be identifying the relationship between science – knowledge based on fact and logic, and religion – a belief built on faith and hope.To begin, the relationship between religion and science is actually a field of study that has been addressed especially by theologians and philosophers. It has been a debatable and complex issue that has been known to cause even the most brutal of wars.

How could these matters cause so much damage yet attempt to bring prosperity to humankind? When and why were they created and how did they come to evolve in our present-day world? These questions could consist of many answers. In my opinion, the reason is because of the ambition that theologians and philosophers wanted to achieve, which was to have a better understanding of the world and let everyone know of it, causing an argument upon the population. On that note, when, why and how did religion and science begin? Our awareness of religion was believed to have begun during the Upper Paleolithic Revolution, which was a major revolution that occurred at the time of final era of the late stone age, at about 50 000 years ago. At this time, people began to question the world around them. They did not understand concepts such as the reason for birth and death, and how the Earth’s appearance looked the way it was. They believed that there was a supernatural and divine power in control of them.

This belief had continued to grow until the Age of Enlightenment, which was an intellectual European movement in the 18th century that had greatly transformed the ideas, views and beliefs concerning God, nature and humanity. It was heavily influenced by philosophers who argued that science and fact, as opposed to superstition and religion was a more reasonable approach. This caused intellectual arguments with those who were European and those who were not, which continue to occur to this day.Science and religion have been battling for generations and continue to be known as one of the oldest conflicts of humanity, possibly because both consist of a theory that might have created humanity.

However, as I mentioned before, they share many commonalities that you are soon to learn. Aside from being similar in purpose, science and religion claim to be working for the good of mankind. Both want to reveal to the world the truth of the past occurrences that led to our existence, and what we as a society can do to prepare for what the future will bring. Also, both science and religion have their own authorities who interpret and preach knowledge. For instance, those who are in the service of religion might include theologians, priests, and popes, and those who follow science can include scientists, philosophers, and astronomers.
