Continuityplanning overviewName:Institutionalaffiliation:Dateof submission: BUSINESSCONTINUITY AND DISASTER RECOVERY PLANNINGBusinesscontinuity and disaster recovery planning are defined as the processes that areaimed to help organizations to prepare for the disruptive events that mightaffect its learning and functioning. The events might be simply power outagesthat are caused by the backhoe in parking lots or the hurricane. Snedaker, (2013 ) says that the involvement of the CS inthe process sometimes ranges from setting the plan into action in case of theemergency, to providing support and input, to supervising the plan. As amanager of the senior BCP management committee, I will be responsible forinitiation, oversight, planning, testing, approval and audit, implement themanagement committee, coordinate the activities and supervise the continuityplans and results of the quality assurance activities.( Costello,2012). The business under my managementwill ensure that it is full protected from the disaster planning by approvingthe government structure, clarifying my roles and those of my fellowparticipants in the program, I will monitor the quality assurance processes, supervise the creation of the list of the appropriate committees, teams to beused to develop the plans and the working groups. I will achieve this bylooking into detail the contrast and comparisons of business continuity anddisaster planning together with the risk management in the contest ofinformation security.Methodsof disaster recovery and business continuity planningBusinesscontinuity and disaster recovery are the procedures and processes that turn thebusiness systems like the software, hardware and data to complete operationsdue to man-made or natural disaster.
Since the business increasingly relies on IT in its mission likecritical operations, it is therefore important to put in place plans in orderto ensure business viability is safe from critical incidents. To conquer or therisks it is important then to mark on the number of data recovery procedures. This will help the business data to be safe from critical conditions.Inrecovering the documents, the business can use the no disaster planning butworthy backup procedures method. This is the best action the business can taketo prevent the disaster from deleting business information is to back up thedata on the computers in every day and store the backups offsite at the safearchival company but not in the employees homes.
In doing this even if thehardware or the software is interrupted, the data can still be loaded up and bereplaced with all the replaceable data. The backups also should be tested dailyto make sure that they are all working.Onthe other hand, the business will put up a cold site disaster recovery solutions. An effective and simple business backup solution is setting up a cold siterecovery data solution. A cold site data solution is a reserved place on thedata center where the business can set up new equipment in the time ofdisaster. This is a popular data recovery method since it intends to be cheapthan many other options of recovery methods but gives the business the abilityto survive in case of the disaster.Onlooking at business continuity planning, this involves more apart fromdeveloping plans. This is a critical element of business continuity planbecause the less experienced person can be called to execute the continuityplans.
The most elements of business continuity plan include business recoveryplans which are focused on the recovering of critical business procedures tominimal levels. There is also the crisis management plan with set of designedprocedures which are aimed to assist the management team that is tasked withgiving response to an event with objectives of stabilizing situations andpreparation for recovery. The IT incident management plan on the other hand, has set of procedures in preparing IT in the recovered state regardless of whatcaused the disaster.Theexecutive managers therefore, can get assurance that business continuitystrategies will function in either using a test or the real world event. The designationof business continuity requires the manager to identify the appropriate testapproach in the business. This will bedone by documenting a test plan by the assistance of developing test objectivesand the associated criteria for success.( Cannon, 2016).
Also the approach will apply in developing thetest facilitation equipment including the test scripts and scenarioinformation, facilitating testing event which includes introduction of scenarioinformation.Challengesin business continuity and disaster recovery planning Creatingof effective disaster recovery plan has its fair share on the challenges. Tostart with, today’s business enterprises consider a backup and a businesscontinuity strategy critical, since, the IT leaders employ several recovery andbackup tools of the respondents which has a multiple disaster recovery systemswhich overlaps the capability of recovery process. This also leads to arisingof numerous problems with the business’ recovery strategy, including the use ofseveral different systems and adding the cost of maintenance and licenses.
Thiscan be addressed bycarrying out the smaller backups which can help to facilitate the organizationof the information, overall management and backup scheduling. In businesscontinuity, the common challenge is the prohibitive of the cost. The process ofbusiness continuity planning therefore becomes very expensive since theavailability of the requirements increases.
This is because; many solutions requireinvestments on their maintenance and installations of additional hardware, software, and the data centers. These requirements lead to increase of costs inthe business continuity. This can be addressed in that, instead of relying onthe physical servers which are very expensive to accommodate the backups, thebusiness should consider using efficient and affordable computing solutions.Lack of staff involvement on the other hand,it will lead to difficultness in carrying out the business continuity plan. This is because, there are many requirements to be considered in the plan andit is very difficult to relay the importance of the plan to the employees sothat to fully understand about the plan. The staff will help to manipulate theplan and give the necessary directions on the importance of the plan.
The issuewill be addressed by holding the company meetings to announce the essentials ofthe business continuity plan and schedule the meeting with the key staff memberswho takes the active roles in the planning process. ReferencesCannon, D. L.
