Rising Action

Falling Action
Explains the result of the climax
Short Story
A book that has one main idea and is short enough to be read in one sitting.
Antagonist
The character who helps create the conflict in the story. (In fairy tales = evil)
Protagonist
The character most central to the action. May or may not be a hero.
Theme
The main message the writer wishes to share.
Resolution
Occurs at the end of the story. Loose ends are tied up.
Complication
Problems that occur that complicate the plot and make matters more difficult
Climax
The highest point of interest or suspense in the story.
It is also the turning point.
Conflict
A problem or struggle between two or more opposing forces.
Setting
The time and place of a story happens.
Exposition
Sets the stage for the story. Characters are introduced, the setting is described and the conflict begins to unfold.
Plot
The sequence of events in a story.
Mood
The feeling a reader gets from a story.
