Through maintaining eye contact, an applicant shows confidence and conviction, especially when shaking hands it communicates confidence. Looking at how an applicant communicates through their body language can help to know whether they have a high self-esteem. When welcoming the candidate note their sitting positions. If they sit, with slouched shoulders and a sunken look on their face this indicates that they are not confident. On the other hand, if an applicant speaks eloquently while sticking their chest out and has a pleasant demeanor it shows that their self-esteem is high. A positive body language conveys confidence and high self-esteem (Lawrence 2011) A candidate with low-self esteem will focus on their negative qualities. Those whose self-esteem is not very high will focus on their positive and negative qualities. However, a person with a high self-esteem will not focus on their negative qualities but will describe as much as possible their positive qualities.
Self-esteem is the skill of thinking positively about oneself. (Beane, 2011). While conducting an interview you may ask a candidate about their hobbies. People with high self-esteem invest their time in activities that make them feel great both in the short term and in long term, while people with low self-esteem do not involve themselves in any activities or hobbies. To identify whether a person has a high self-esteem you can ask the applicant where they see themselves in the next five years.
People with high self-esteem have a burning desire to grow continuously.. A person with high self-esteem expects the best to happen, and they are always positive. For an applicant to show a high self-esteem they must always report on positive events of their careers and show how they are suitable for the vacancy applied. Candidates who focus of their weaknesses and not their strengths tend to portray a low self-esteem, and this can be one of the indicators to know whether an applicant has a high or low self-esteem (Page M, 2011).
