  Welived in flat-faced tenement buildings, (a few of them were destined to beknocked down around us), in what was commonly known as “single ends”; the titleof my book is self-evident, the most prevalent part of my life growing up inGlasgow, was the fear of entrapment from my surroundings and be succumbed intothe life of drunkenness and crime, it’s a pitiful display of people that I have witnessed so many occasions thosethat are so determined to drink themselves into a stupor.  The Gorbals has had a long reputation of beinga gritty and rough area of Glasgow; it had become widely known as a dangerousslum associated with the problems of drunkenness and crime
