I was carefree 10 years old when I got the unexpected news that we were going to move. I was doing my homework on the living room couch when suddenly the door opened with a slam, and I saw my parents walk into the room with a cluster of suitcases. I had no idea what was going on, I immediately stopped what I was doing and questioned my parents as to why they had bought those suitcases. The moment they told me that we were moving, my heart shattered. I was completely heartbroken.

Being an irrational little kid I threw a huge and very unnecessary tantrum. It never occurred to me that this might beneficial for me. I was only thinking about the painstaking task of making new friends.

I relentlessly begged my parents to reconsider but to no avail. After days of tormenting my parents, I finally made peace with the fact my entire life would change. My mom insisted I stay away from the packing as it would only make me miserable and because I was too young to know what to do. Of course, I did not listen to her and still packed some things when she was not looking. My mother justified her behavior by packing for my younger brother too, but that didn’t help me. The days leading up to the moving days were all a blur of people running around.

In less than a month we were ready to go. There were no traces that we ever lived in our cozy little suburban house. The final day in our house was uneventful and before I knew it we were at the airport boarding our plane. As the plane took flight my eyes stayed glued to the window, I kept on staring at the view.

This was my first time on a plane and it was beautiful. Little did I know that this would be a scene I would soon become accustomed to.The packing and moving my entire life part of this experience was awful but the adventure related to it was worthwhile.

The airport, the plane, and the large new city all blew me away. I was a little kid experiencing this for the first time. I was engulfed in all the excitement it made me forget all about the dreadfulness of moving. Within a few days of settling in, I had already started pestering my parents to take a trip.

My curiosity took a hold of me and drove me further my newly found passion for traveling. I adopted my exploratory skills and it became a priority in my life. I divulged into the various cultures of the world. I explored the history, the art, the general lifestyle of the various people I encountered.

It soon became apparent to me that my curiosity spread farther than just travel. I needed to know the “hows” and “whys” instead of just the “what”.
