My younger self never knew much of the world. Yet, the world wasn’t a total stranger because I was a part of it and that was the only thing I understood. I was clueless about the things happening around the world. I was clueless that people were suffering from mental health.

I was clueless about racism and all the other controversial topics discussed by everyone around the globe. All I knew was that the children in Africa are starving because I didn’t finish my food. “Think outside the box”, they said. But then again, I never knew a box existed. I just did what I’m told to do. So to me, life was another cycle where you go to school, get an education, graduate, get a job, retire then die. That was the interpretation of life in my younger self’s eyes.

But as I grew, I started to wonder. My thoughts reached out to the corners of my mind, wondering about the human nature, the world, the entire universe, everything. I’d often find myself sitting in front of a mirror questioning about my existence. What am I here for? Is there a deeper meaning in this life that I live? Then I’d remember. It’s the money. You see, our lives revolve around money so much we pay no attention to the things around us. Everything we desire grows further apart from us every single day. If you’ve learnt history, you’d know that thousands of centuries ago when humans still live in caves and up the trees, their goal was simple and that was to stay alive.

They thrive on food and water provided by nature. They take a spear and stab the rivers in hopes that they’ll get food instead of their own foot. They make weapons to protect themselves so they wouldn’t get ripped apart by that prehistoric crocodile that has been sitting in the river stalking the daylights out of them. It was simple back then. But then fast forward thousands of centuries, the script has changed. You can’t take whatever mother nature provides you with even if it were the basic elements we need to live.

If you try to take the water from the rivers, let me tell you – half of them are polluted and the other half aren’t even there anymore. We are technically killing off our own source of survival. This world has been moulded and shaped into this nightmare where money controls us. Everything you do, if it wasn’t about the passion, it’s the money.

We depend on it to keep us alive.  Growing up, adults ask us the one most annoying question that burns our ears every single time we hear it. “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I abhor this question to the next dimension and back. If you have visited Barbie’s website, on one of the pages it would read, “You can be a mermaid. You can be an astronaut.

You can be a pilot. You can be anything! ” and I agree, you can. But if you were to go home and tell your parents you wanted to be a mermaid, they’d straight up spit a solid “no” to your face because god knows you can’t earn money from that.  But let me give you this simple advice – if you love it, do it. A British Philosopher once said – “If you say that getting the money is the most important thing, you will spend your lives completely wasting your time. You’ll be doing things you don’t like in order to go on living, that is to go on doing things you don’t like doing.”You wake up every single morning in the same bed, then proceed to go to school or work, then come home and go to bed.

The next morning, the entire cycle repeats itself. Ladies and Gentlemen let me ask you, when will there be an end to this? Are you really happy doing the same thing every single day? Is this how you wish to end your life, knowing that everything you’ve done is because of a pathetic piece of paper? You see, I can’t change you. Your mind and body belong to you and only you. Nobody can change that and only you can change yourself. Of course, I’m not advising you to drop out of school and learn to fly. But how long do you plan to follow this script passed down to you? To repeat this cycle over and over again for more generations to come? You have a choice to continue following the script or erasing it and rewriting it the way you want it. Make it as exciting as possible or as boring as possible if that’s what you’d like.

Just make sure that you leave this world not regretting your life. Never regret. Once upon a time, the world was unscripted.
