TOPIC: Perovskite
solar cells: The Future of Solar Energy




energy usage is expanding worldwide because of its abundant availability but
the efficiency of conventional silicon solar cells has made very little
progress in the last few decades.  Photovoltaics has already become
significantly cheaper than grid electricity in several industrialized
countries. Perovskite solar cells has shown the largest energy conversion
efficiency increase of all photovoltaic technologies available in the present.

A perovskite solar
cell has a perovskite structured compound, mostly a hybrid organic-inorganic
lead or tin halide-based material, as the light-harvesting active layer. They
are available cheaply and are easy to manufacture. They possess many intrinsic
properties. Some of them are as follows:

Broad absorption spectrum

Fast charge separation

Long transport distance of electrons and holes

Long carrier separation lifetime

Perovskite solar
cells (PSCs)can absorb light across almost all visible wavelengths and possess
exceptional power conversion efficiencies exceeding 20%.


As perovskite solar cells possess very high energy efficiency at
cheaper costs, they have become a point of focus. But due to structural softness, thermal instability and
solubility in water, fabrication of the perovskite layers and the stability of
perovskite solar cells represent major challenges. The two main problems
existing in PSCs presently are:

Hysterical behavior
of current-voltage measurement


We will be covering the status of lead halide perovskite thin
films solar cells and comparing them to the conventional silicon solar cells.
The main objective of the paper will be to discuss the main challenges that
lead halide perovskite solar cells are facing and discussing the solutions that
helped to overcome them.


The main methodology used for this project will be studying the
structure of the perovskite solar cells and discussing the solutions used in overcoming the major challenges of these
cells. For these we will be looking at various webinars to know about the
recent development in the related field. We will be comparing the conventional
solar cells with the perovskite solar cell.
