Study design:Presentstudy is a cross-sectional study which was performed to assess the knowledge,attitude and practice of risk factors for cardiovascular diseases among primaryschool teacher in belagavi city.Study Area:Thestudy was conducted in urban area of belagavi city. The government and privateschool which were under the urban Block education office (BEO) were included inthe study.Study period:Presentstudy was conducted for a period of 15 months from Sep-2016 to Feb-2018. Andthe data was collected from January 2017 to December 2017.
Study population:Thegovernment and private primary school teachers which were under the urban area constitutedin the study population.Sample size calculation: usingZ test n=Z2pq/d2. 67.94% of teachers were know about riskfactors, Q =100-64.94%, 95% confident interval, error=5%, so total requiredsample is n=335.Sampling technique:· Data has collected from urban BEObelagavi total number of school in belagavi city is 190.
Among that 100government school, 90 private school. · Total 900 primary school teachers. In that500 government, 400 private schools. · List out all teachers and first samplechosen randomly. There after every third (3rd) teachers has beenselected by systematic random sampling method for information.
PilotStudy:· Apilot study was conducted on 10% of total sample i.e.35 teachers from love dalecentral school in mahantesh nagar, Belagavi.
Validation of the questionnairewas done and necessary modifications were made.Inclusion criteria:· Teachers those willing to participatewith consent are included in this study.Exclusion criteria:· Those who was absent during datacollection.
· Teachers who were not willing toparticipate.Ethical consideration:Institutionalreview board approval. Prior to data collection ethical clearance was fromethical committee of J.N.M.C.
(Annexure-III) Informed consent:· A prior written permission was obtainedfrom the Belagavi block education Officer (BEO) for this study.· Written informed consent was obtainedfrom principals and teachers of the respective school after explaining anddiscussing all aspects of the study.(Annexure-I)Confidentiality:Utmost care was taken to maintain privacy and confidentiality of the study participants.Data Analysis:Ø Percentage,rates & ratio was calculated.Ø Frequencyhas taken.Ø Chi-Squaretest was applied.Ø Datawas compiled and coded in SPSS 20 and EXCEL.Ø Adata analysis was done using SPSS 20 and Excel.
Outcome measure: Apre-designed, semi structured, self-administered questionnaire ?wasused to inquire ? about socio-demographicdata,datarelated to risk factors for CVD such as: ?smoking,alcohol consumption, dietary habit, physical activity, medical history ofparticipants.The risk factorassessment Questionnaire:Astandard questions formulated by WHO STEP wise approach to chronic disease riskfactor surveillance have been used in this study. The questions elicited theinformation regarding participant’s demographic and socioeconomiccharacteristics including age, gender, religion, educational and maritalstatus, and income.Thepractice questions helped to meat information about smoking, drinking alcohol,eating fruits and vegetables and physical activity.
Weight:Participantswere requested to remove all their belongings such as: key, mobile phone,wallets, accessories, and watches. Similarly before weighing shoes, belts andheavy outer clothes were removed. Everybody were allowed to remain only inlight clothing then weight was drawn a weighing scale. Weight of everyindividual was recorded to the nearest 0.5 kg.
Height:Heightscales were taken to measure the height. Study participants were measured inbare feet instructing to stand with their back against the wall and to lookstraight forward. A flat scale was used to rest gently on the head as a slidinghorizontal bar and height were measured to nearest centimetre.Body mass index (BMI):Thebody mass index (BMI) is measure for human body shape on individual’s weightand height and also known as Quetelet index.Calculationof BMI:BMI=weight in kg/ height (m) 2Worldhealth organization has given international calculation of adult BMI: Classification BMI (kg/m)2 Underweight ? 18.50 Normal range 18.51-24.99 Over weight ? 30.
