The ability to study mathematics requires the ability tounderstand and imply knowledge to real life scenarios and situations; this sameidea is associated with accounting and finance and must be fully understood tobe able to bring into practice what has been learnt. I personally believe that withunderstanding in both these subjects, I will be able to pursue a career inaccounting and finance to the best of my ability. This is just one of the manyreasons that motivate me to study and pursue a career in accounting andfinance.
I am currently studying an AAT level 2 and 3 course and amhoping to complete this course by July. This is my target I have set andbelieve that if I work with the right mind-set and plan I will be able tocomplete this course within this time. I have chosen to complete a 2 yearcourse in a space of 1 year as I believe I am good at accounting and financeand believe that saving a year and studying a course at university will put meahead in the race of pursuing a career in accounting and finance. Studying an AAT in accounting has provided me with theability to understand numerous concepts and different methods that are used andhas helped me increase my knowledge in this field. I have learnt to study as anindividual independently and have been able to carry out my own extensiveresearch and apply that to what I’ve learnt. I have been able to understanddifferent concepts and how they need to be addressed and used, thus, helping meachieve the qualification needed to pursue a career in this field. I believethat studying this course has given me the confidence and ability to carry outmy own and work independently.
I have worked, voluntarily at a family run restaurant foralmost 2 years and have developed my interpersonal skills as well as customerrelations. I was fortunate enough to be given a lot of responsibility whenworking there which developed me as a person and gave me the ability to taketasks on hand and be a team leader. At the end of the week I would help my dadin the restaurants earnings and would help calculate total earnings, expensesand profit. A lot of my interest came from this as I enjoyed dealing with moneyand being able to work on real life scenarios. I voluntarily also worked at a local car dealership.
Workinghere involved many tasks such as customer relations, marketing, advertising andsales. Working here enabled me to understand how dealerships work and howvehicles are sold. Whilst working here I had seen that many calculations areinvolved in the selling of a vehicle. Working here I mostly gained experiencein customer relations as I was able to assist people in buying the rightvehicle.
I believe this will help me in this course as working in accountingand finance will involve a lot of interaction with customers and having goodexperience in that will help provide the best service. Since the age of seven, a major interest of mine is mixed martial arts. I have participated inmany tournaments and with that have come many losses and of course manytriumphant wins. I have learnt to not to crack under pressure and have learnthow to control it and use it to bring upon success- and how to enjoy thesuccess which comes afterwards! In addition to this, I have learnt aboutcommitment and sticking to it till the end and ensuring that I get the best outof what I am studying and using it to my full potential. The things I havelearned from martial arts will help me throughout my life; not only duringUniversity, but during my career and long afterwards.
Other than this, I amalso regularly involved in sport; I play football weekly and participate inmany tournaments throughout the UK. My principal objective is to become a Chartered Accountantwith this degree. I am hoping this course will equip me with not only anextensive insight into the accounting world, as well as providing me a widescope of choices and connections after my course.
