In science we have been producing beer to compare the ways in which you brew beer in industry and the way you brew it at the home. We used fermentation in the experiment, fermentation is a chemical change produced by action of enzymes.

Alcoholic fermentation is probably the most important fermentation. * Then after all this we stored the containers in a warm place for about three to four days. During this time all the flavour came out.* When we got the container back out we got some plastic bottles and put the beer in to the bottles. The plastic bottles had one teaspoon of sugar in it to give it a little bit of fizz to the beer.

* Then we stored the plastic bottles away again the longer you leave the bottles the better the taste will be.Industry Method* The production in industry starts of with malted grains which are passed through a milling machine to crack the dried kernels and grind them into a coarse powder.* The cracked malt is then steeped with hot water in a large, stainless steel vat called a mash tun, to produce wort the wort is boiled for two hours.* After the wort has cooled down it is then put in to a fermentation tank were yeast slowly converts the grain sugar to alcohol.* The beer then passes through a filter to remove the yeast residue.

* The wort is pumped in to a large conditioning tank to age where it under goes another fermentation. During aging the beer becomes naturally carbonated. In industry they pump C02 into beer to give it the fizz but in home brewing the C02 comes from the secondary fermentation.In industry they pasteurize the beer to give it a longer life but in home brewing they do not pasteurize the beer.In industry they make mass production of beer whilst in home brewing it is a one off.In industry they continuously be making the beer but in home brewing it is not continuous.In industry they always have the same amount of alcohol volume in the beer but in home brewing you can choose the amount of alcohol volume in the beer.Similarities* Industry and home brewing use the same ingredients theses ingredients are water, barley, other cereals, sugar, hops and yeast.* They both add the yeast in when the wort has cooled down because then it makes it taste better.

* Home brewing and industry use secondary fermentation because they have let the beer settle to give it better taste.* The industry and home brewing both take the same time to make because beer can only be made in a certain amount of time no matter if you make it at home or in industry.Differences* In industry they make the wort for them selves because it is cheaper for them. In home brewing they have ready made wort for the same reason as the industry.

* In industry they use revsed yeast because it is easier for them to use. In home brewing they use dried yeast because it is easier for them to use in home brewing.* In home brewing they use bottles for secondary fermentation because they do not have a lot of beer but in industry they have mass productions of beer so they have to store it in barrels so it does not take up a lot of room.* In industry they pump C02 in to the barrels so they do not have to add any more sugar in to the beer so they can get it exactly right but in home brewing they add a little bit of sugar to the beer to give it fizz the two reasons being it is cheaper and simpler.

* In industry they pasteurize the beer to give it longer life because they have to send the beer out nationwide and need it to have long life. In home brewing they do not pasteurize the milk because it is not made to sell in shops it is for your own consumption.* In industry they make mass production of beer because that is were they are going to get they money from whilst in home brewing you do not make the beer to sell you make it for yourself.* In industry the making of beer is continuous because they have to sell it. In home brewing it is not continuous because they are making it for them selves.* In industry the beer volume always stays the same because then they costumers know how much alcohol is put in but in home brewing you can experiment and have different alcohol volumes.

EvaluationThe good thing about the industry is that they never change they procedure. The taste is always the same. You know you are drinking good beer. It is very easy to sell and the beer is pasteurized so it has longer life. The bad points about the industry are you can not experiment with the alcohol volume.

You can not make mistakes and get away with them.The good points about home brewing are you can experiment with the alcohol volume, you are not making the beer for someone else so you can make it to your own liking and you do not get in trouble for making a mistake. The bad points about home brewing are you can not store it for a long time because it is not pasteurized. Some times you may get a weird taste and if you make the alcohol volume to much it can be dangerous.
