The wheels turn as Juliet pulled into the black top parking spot. ERKK. The car door opens up as she grabs her recycled grocery bags.

Making her way into the store she has a list of what to get. It’s the new year, and her resolution is to have a healthier lifestyle. Nights staying up looking at meal plans and what is healthier than the other. One foot step at a time, she makes her way to the outermost right side of the grocery store; where the produce is. “Ughh this is harder than it looks” so many products that are the same, but different prices.

Juliet starts questioning what the best items are to get. She sees a sign of that there is a dietician works in the store. Rapidly, she speed walks to the office with confusion. Asking her questions, the dietitian is happy to help. They make their way to the produce section as she starts giving her information of what she has on her list. These new words come out of the dietitians mouth, Juliet has never heard before. ” Some produce are raised differently, and that is why the prices are different.

” Juliet listens to her while the dietitian picks out what food items she shall get. The grocery cat, weighing a ton, wheels its way to the grocery line. TWACK TWACK TWACK. Each item is scanned one by one. The price is rising, and Juliet is getting worried she won’t have enough money to pay for her products. ” Your total will be seventy dollars ma’am” the cashier says. Juliet had just enough to get her produce. She doesn’t have enough to get the rest of her groceries.

She goes home and researches what Organic means because all the produce had an organic certified sticker on it. Infuriatingly, she is wondering if it was worth buying those items instead of conversional produce. The conflict between choosing organic versus conventional foods is very common in today’s world. Not many people are educated enough to make the right decision. People remain unconvinced with spending the extra money on organic foods. Though organic food costs more, the health advantages and the pre production may have you searching for organic food. Organic food is the production of food avoiding conventional pesticides. Organic agriculture is best defined as ” an ecological production managment system that promotes and enhances biodiversity, and biological cycles.

” James, D. C. (2004) p.144. The main goal is for organic agriculture to produce the best food that will improve world health including: human, soil, plant, and animals. Conventional foods are grown with various types of pesticides, fertilizers, and may contain genetically modified organisms (GMOS). Genetically modified organisms is a genome that has went through genetic engineering that injects genes that was not originally there. Where the growth and production of food takes place determines whether or not its is conventional or not.

There are four categories organic foods are marketed by. One hundred percent organic means it must contain organically produced ingredients, excluding water and soil. “Organic” on the label means the product was produced using organic methods, and at least 95 percent of organic ingredients. Foods labeled with “Made with organic” must contain at least 70 percent organic ingredients. Lastly, products with fewer than 70 percent organic ingredients can use the word organic to specify what organic ingredients are used in the nutritional values label on the product.Wolfe, F. A. (2000) There are many factors that take place producing these foods.

“These factors include the weather ( affecting  crops year- to- year), specific environmental conditions from one farm to the next ( microclimates), soil condition, etc.” Crinnion, W. J. (2010) p.4.

Production factors are very sacred when it comes to the wellness of the world, and health. Many risks can take part in any food production that can be dangerous. Some risks are lower than others depending on how they are produced. Some of these risks may include: vitamin defisionses, cancer, diabetes, etc.

“Pesticides and other chemicals add up over time and can leave residues in your body tissues.” James, D. C. (2004) p.181. Dangerously enough, the food humans consume can be harmful to bodies. It is important to examine the background of where your food is coming from in order to reduce the risk of any health or environmental issues.

” Organic farming delivers the highest quality, best tasting food, produced without artificial chemicals or genetic modification, and with respect for animal welfare and the environment” (Blatt, 2008, p.71). Enhancing the quality of organic foods will have a great impact on today’s society and the world itself. Organic farming is a great step to have a great change in this world. Fertilizers in agriculture today disrupts nature and human disease. When producing in industrial farms, there is more harm taken in the world and less thinking about the health in nature, and others. ” Humans are but one strand in the web of life.” Blatt, H.

(2008). P.71 Humans depend of the production of plants and animals. By harming our environment, it was an impact on the things we depend on. Organically raised animals are not fed the way conventional animals are.

” Organically raised animals have not been fed with harmful hormones. Or pesticide. The animals are the most natural diet, including grass. Conventional animals are fed toxins that are stored in herbicides, and pesticides that are very harmful if a human were to consume on its own.”There is no evidence to provide whether or not organic vegetables and fruits are better than conventional.

” Ojha, R., Amanatidis, S., Petocz, P., & Samman, S. (2007) p.35. What we do know is that if you knowingly limit the exposure of toxins in your diet, it is a common sense safeguard.

James, D. C. (2004) p.187. Organic eating is an option to limiting your exposure to pesticides and the toxins.

The growth and environment has a great impact on the nutritional value. Going organic will make impacts on all aspects of life from nature, to animals, to the human body. One change in the world is a chain reaction. The cost of organic items is a disadvantage to being apart of this change. ” Most consumers who do not eat organic foods said that price was the major barrier to purchasing them.

“( Blatt 2008.p.72).

“Organic agriculture arose in the 1970s as a reaction to the industrial farms that confine animals, regularly feed them antibiotics, and use large amounts of poisonous artificial pesticides and chemical fertilizers on crops.” (Blatt, H. 2008. P. 65) The European union is known for producing organic production and regulations rules.Consumers union investigated the traces of pesticides in product.

European union did not set many standards to make a food organic. In the future, the department of agriculture may want to change the regulations to have a clear understanding of what our foods consist of. It is not proven that organic farming methods result in better food safety. ” Concern about pesticide content of food is a factor that leads people to purchase organic foods over conventional.” (Ojha, R., Amanatidis,et. al. 2007.

p.35). Organic farmers keep balance in an unbalanced industry.

There are many factors that put organic food producing in the lead. Throughout history, there has been a rapid increase in the amount of advantages and market growth. ” Organic farming used 30 percent less fossil fuel, conserved more water in the soil, caused less erosion , maintained better soil quality, and conserved more biological resources than conventional farming.” (James, D. C.

2004. p.85) The result of organic farming has a great impact on the world. Such benefits of organic farming to the environment and health lifestyles is very critical while facing today’s world.

The demand and growth of organic foods in the world continues to grow. Organic food has raised in sales drastically over the 21st century. “Major food companies are producing organic foods and entering organic marketing.

” (Blatt, H. 2008. p.65) Organic food has grown beyond the produce aisles. Big companies like: Walmart, Cosco, Coca- Cola, and Gerber, there is a competitive rate going into it. Now that the demand for organic food is increasing, so are the prices. Walmarts produce is 10 percent expensive than conventional. (James, D.

C. 2004) Growing beyond major food selling companies, restaurants are now to introducing organic menu items.” One way to lower the cost of organic products is to purchase them at farmers markets.”Blatt, H. 2008. p.67). Buying organic supports small businesses and local farmers.

these small businesses farm and produce to provide for their families.” Organic products with the highest differences in price between the organic and the conventional version such as meat, poultry, and processed meat (36) could be consumed less because the price constraint would be too important (37).” (Bénard, M. et.

al. 2018). The questions still stands whether or not it is worth cost and does it have more advantages than conventionally grown food. Many researches indicate that organic is superior over conventional foods. “Going organic is better for the environment. Organic farming had high standards of animal welfare.”(Blatt, H.

2008). ” Potential health benefits of organic foods are scarce”…” Vitro studies examined the anti-cancer potential of some organic food products.

“(Crinnion, W. J. 2010.

p.8). Choosing to eat an organic lifestyle prevents any diseases from forming in your body.

It is important to know the importance of your health. There are many more diseases and risks that are preventable by avoiding conventional foods. “Farmers who work with pesticides develop parkinson’s disease, immune system malfunctions, mental illness, and several kinds of cancer.

” (James, 2004, p.80). People who work for conventional factories and farms have developed illnesses that is life threatening. Industries sell food that puts humans health to risk.

Studies have collected data showing the risks conventional consumers have compared to organic. ” Children consuming organic milk and milk products having a 36 percent reduction in risk of having this allergic skin disorder.” (Crinnion, 2010, p.9). ” Lower eczema risk (OR: 0.

76) for those on a strict organic diet.” ( Crinnion,2010,p.9). Crinnion introduces the studies that took place by showing that there to a difference in organic food. A Lot take place in a earlier stage of life.” Preschoolers fed conventional diets had six times the level of certain pesticides in their urine as those who ate organic foods.”( James, 2004, p.77).

Children have more pesticide in their urine than adults do. Lower levels of pesticides is a higher level of antioxidants and other health protecting compounds.
