The Netherlands is fully aware that the presence of racist organizations is an important issue affecting most countries.

The United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination defines racism as “any distinction, exclusion, restriction or preference based on race, color, descent, national, or ethnic origin.” While racist organizations are defined as having racist core values in which their actions are taken to further promote a racist agenda. We recognize the fact that there is a correlation between the current rise of these type of organizations and the rise of liberal and progressive forces. The numerous attacks related to islamophobia in countries such as the US is a prime example. The increase of racist organizations in the Netherlands and in most other European countries are mainly due to the rise of immigrants from the Middle East and various places in Africa that come to Europe. In the Netherlands, hate crimes have increased by over 20% over the past four years according to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

The delegation is also aware of the World conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia, and Related Intolerance in 2001 reviewed the fundamentals of ICERD and the participants also recommended ways to improve regional, national, and international measures to combat racism, as well as to ensure that the UN had the resources to do combat racism. (3)The delegate of the Netherlands believes that international cooperation is the only solution for ending or minimizing hate crimes as well as racist organizations. One example of this is after the FIFA World Cup in South Africa in 2010, the UN passed a resolution to encourage the function of the event in eliminating racism and racial discrimination. Therefore, the UN decided to take March 21, 2013 as International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
