Donald Trump, the president of the United States has made his opinion on illegal immigrants, mostly Mexicans very clear, when announcing his plans on building the Wall across the U.S and Mexico border, to stop Mexicans from coming into the U.S, Illegally.
“I would build a great wall, and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me, and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great great wall on our southern border and I’ll have Mexico pay for that wall.”-Sources: Donald Trump’s presidential announcement speech. The reason that host communities react differently towards migration, can be the race, religion and political point of views. Most migrants are migrating to the U.S is that there are employment opportunities where the US offers more jobs than Central American countries. Not everyone in the U.S agrees with it being a positive thing, since many think that migrants are taking away the jobs from the host community.
“They’re taking our jobs. They’re taking our manufacturing jobs. They’re taking our money. They’re killing us.”-source: Quote from Article. The impacts and consequences of the migration from Central America to North America are separated into the economic, social and political aspects.
The economic aspect is made out of the costs and the benefits. The economic costs includes the loss of young adult labour force, the loss of those with skills and entrepreneurial talents, which may slow economic development, the loss of labour may deter inward investment by private organisation and the increasing dependence on governmental initiatives. The economic benefits from migration are reduced under-employment in the source country, many migrants send remittances home and much of this money is being reinvested in the some economy in projects such as new buildings and services, and there is less amount of pressure on resources in the area, including basic supplies such as food essential services such as healthcare. The social costs and benefits include the amount of the benefits of migration are encouraging more of the same generation to migrate as well,, which has a massive effect on social structure, remittances being sent home by the economic migrants who can afford to improve education and health facilities and also the non-return of migrants causes imbalance in the population pyramid. Example for those reactions would be that the recent evidence is suggesting that immigration is leading to a better educated workforce, greater occupational specialization, better skills with jobs, and higher overall economic productivity. The hosts views on migration are proven to be very mixed. An american youtuber called Hunter Avallone has shared his opinion in a Video explaining that “We have people entering our country illegally, so lets do something to stop them” he also went on to say that “and i don’t like that 62% of migrants especially from Mexico live from welfare, paid for by my pay taxes”, which clearly shows that he is not very positive about illegal migrants coming in.
He also said that “i don’t like when migrants come in and kill hosts and get away with it”. Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmSyWdT155gAnother american Youtuber called Al Jazeera, who has a different opinion has made a Video on why migrants are a good thing.
She mentioned that “Migrants have not increased crime” and that in the U.S the imigration council has said that that “immigrants are less likely to commit any crimes”, “Do Americans really want the jobs that the Central Americans are doing?”
