“Your school days should be the best years of your life.

“This is what teenagers are often told, but speaking on behalf of most of us, this statement is far from true. Instead, coming of age is in fact long and very stressful. First of all, there is a large amount of pressure put on young people to succeed. Of course we all aspire to be successful. Who doesn’t? It is when the pressure from our social order becomes too great that it becomes a problem. Females especially are encouraged to fulfill an often impossible level ofperfectionism.

This can make them feel like they have lost any control they had. They then deem it necessary to compensate for this loss of control by changing their eating habits for the worst. These changes can lead to major health issues such as bulimia or anorexia. Pushing teens to do their best is well intentioned and this can often be motivating, however a lot of students think that their studies is their business only and is not a something parents should involve themselves in.Here in the UK, between 600 and 800 students between ages 15 and 24 commit suicide each year where school is the main reason for their death. This is another unbelievable statistic to arise and is confirmed when a survey of 804 teachers reveals that 73% agreed that school (and life in general) is a significant amount more stressful than in the last 10 years. It is safe to say school pressure is contributing to the ascending suicide rate.

Studies find that typical school teenagers have more mental issues than psychiatric patients did in the 50’s. Once again school is somewhat responsible for this.Overall, I think that excessive academic pressure is able to develop mental health problems in anyone, but academic pressure alone is not enough (although it may be in some rare cases).This kind of pressure plays an important role in causing psychological issues and everyone can do better to reduce this.

Parents should avoid pressure towards their children and instead assure them there is life beyond work and education. Educators should reduce the workload given, but learners should still have the same chance of success. They should criticise less and motivate more. Students should help themselves by aiming to keep a balanced social and school life, but always prioritise their schoolwork. They should aim to take care of their wellbeing. parents and teachers should concentrate on how to help their pupils or children deal with stress and that flawed performance is an ordinary part of learning.
